Trauma Sensitive Yoga

I absolutely love yoga. It’s one of my favorite self compassion (I like this better than self- care for some reason) tools. It allows me to give my mind a break and stop swirling. It helps me to release the tension of stress and clears my mind, ready to start anew with fresh eyes. Trauma sensitive yoga is not much different from traditional yoga, the difference is that the instructor keeps in their mind that they are helping trauma survivors, so the way they move, engage and connect with you has a different, more sensitive awareness to it. It is a very powerful tool with both emotional and physical benefits.

Yoga
If your low on funds or time, going to a yoga studio at a specified time might not work for you. So below are some tips for doing it at home, with and without an instructor on youtube.
Find a distraction free location. A place place that’s large enough for you to spread out your mat
Decide on the length of time you want to do it. Maybe 5 minutes in the beginning to see how it feels and increase as you desire
Choose your ambiance. You can watch a video or you can just listen to music. The key is something calming and soothing
I love smells and they can also contribute to a calm environment. Light some candles or use essential oils, whatever works for you is fine. Have fun with it.
As you try different moves try to slow down and stay present. Focus on your breathing and on the way your body feels.
Journal your experience. It may be a challenge to try to remember all you experienced for your next therapy appointment or if your like me you kind of like to see how things change and move over time, journaling is a good way to keep track of things.

Yoga OutsideBelow are some of my favorites-most are trauma informed yoga instructors on youtube and one is a by a fun teenage girl that I think would be very appealing to teens.
Beth Jones certified Trauma Informed Yoga Instructor
David Emerson certified Trauma Informed Yoga Instructor-it’s audio only so you can close your eyes and fully be present not worry about how you look
Yoga for teens led by one cool 14 y/o name Jaysea Devoa

Finally check out the video on my youtube channel that I did with a trauma sensitive yoga instructor in Tel Aviv, Israel-Rachel Adler.
